Create a happy hour offer

Build a time-limited percent discount for quiet afternoons and check that it applies correctly at the till.

In this tutorial you will create a 15% offer that runs on weekday afternoons for orders above a minimum. Offers need the Starter plan or above.

Before you start

Decide on four things: the discount, the days and hours, a minimum order amount, and whether it applies at every outlet. A small minimum protects you from discounting a single tea.

Steps

  1. Open Settings › Discounts. If the offers module is included in your plan you will see your existing offers. You may also see a daily suggestion based on your last 28 days of orders; you can use it as a starting point.
  2. Add a new offer. Give it a name customers will recognise, such as Happy Hour 15%.
  3. Choose the type. Select Percent and enter 15. A flat offer would take a rupee amount instead.
  4. Set the days and time window. Select Monday to Friday, then set the start and end time, for example 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A window that runs past midnight is also supported.
  5. Add a minimum order. Enter 400, or whatever suits your menu.
  6. Choose outlets. Leave it on all outlets, or pick specific ones.
  7. Choose customers. Leave it open to everyone, or limit it to new or repeat customers.
  8. Save the offer.
  9. Test it. Start a new order during the window and add items worth more than your minimum. Open the Offers panel. The offer should be listed as eligible, with a button to apply it.
  10. Test the edge cases. Try an order below the minimum. The panel should say why the offer does not qualify. Try again outside the window.
  11. Apply and check the bill. The discount appears on the order and on the receipt.

Rules to remember

  • Only one offer can be on an order. Applying another replaces the first, and the till tells you which was replaced.
  • An offer never exceeds the items' value. The amount is capped at the item subtotal and the remaining balance.
  • If staff change the items after applying, the till re-checks the offer and removes or adjusts it if the order no longer qualifies.

Go further

For combos, create an items together offer, or buy X get Y. The till shows an Almost there list with one-tap buttons for items still needed.

Review the offer after a week. If it brought in more orders in the quiet period without cutting your margin too far, keep it.
